Description

Rey Mono 2: Traición is the expansion that takes the Rey Mono phenomenon to the next level. More interaction, more strategy and more chaos… without losing its essence: learn to play in under a minute and stay hooked for hours.

It includes 38 new cards that multiply the possibilities: two-coloured monkeys that make pairs easier, cards that knock points off in one go, and crocodiles that can steal straight from other players' point piles. In this version, your points are never safe.

It can be played as an expansion to the original Rey Mono or on its own as a 2-player duel. It also comes with a cloth bag to carry both games comfortably.

Same fast pace. More decisions. More betrayal.

Rey Mono in 4 steps

  1. Baraja y reparte

    Shuffle and deal

Deal 4 cards to each player and put the draw pile in the middle. On your turn: play a card and draw, or discard and draw.

  2. Haz parejas

    Make pairs

Match monkeys of the same color on your side of the table and flip them over. That's your very own pile of points.

  3. Fastidia al resto

    Mess with everyone else

Use special cards to boost your score or, even better, to sabotage whoever's in the lead.

  4. Sé el Rey Mono

    Be the Rey Mono

Most points at the end? Congrats! Claim the Tarjeta dorada and get perks in the next game.

Frequently asked questions

Grouped by topic. Looking for something specific? Start here.

Is Rey Mono suitable for color-blind players?

Yes. The game is designed so that information doesn't rely on color alone: the monkeys can also be told apart by their shape and features, so color-blind players compete on equal terms.

How many players, and how long does a game take?

2 to 8 players, about 10 minutes per game. Kids can play from age 5 with a few simple adaptations, and with an adult at the table they play just fine.

Can young kids play?

Yes, from age 5 with a few simple adaptations: the rules are short and the cards are distinguished by color and shape, so a 5-year-old can easily play with a grown-up. See below for how to adapt it.

Can Rey Mono be adapted for little ones?

Yes, and that's exactly what we do. Depending on age, take out the special cards (Siesta, Liana, and Estampida) and the game becomes all about making pairs. If it still drags on, remove the bonus cards too: then it's just color matching, which is exactly what a five-year-old needs.

What language are the rules in?

The rulebook is in Spanish.

Do I need Rey Mono to play Rey Mono 2: Traición?

No. You can play Rey Mono 2: Traición without Rey Mono, but we recommend having both together for the best experience.

Where can I buy Rey Mono?

In the official Badan Studios store, and also on Amazon, Fnac, Carrefour, El Corte Inglés, and in specialist board game shops.

Who publishes Rey Mono?

Rey Mono is designed and published by Badan Studios, a board game studio from Madrid (Spain) founded by Alejandro Roldán and Aida Caba. It was released in November 2024 and is the studio's own original game, not a license or a third-party edition.

Where is Rey Mono made?

It's made in Spain with no plastic in its components, a decision the studio made to reduce the game's impact.

Can Rey Mono be used at school or for game-based learning?

Yes, it's used in classrooms and toy libraries as a game-based learning resource. It practices mental math with positive and negative numbers, sorting and matching, taking turns and decision-making, and since it doesn't rely on color alone, color-blind students can play too.
